With the development of China’s economy, the importance of English has beenacknowledged in many aspects, which sets higher requirements for English teaching in China.Cultivating students’ English ability has attracted more and more attention. However, China’smiddle school students have low interest in English learning, many of whom are confused inEnglish learning and do not know where to start, even those who have higher English writtenexpression ability are inadequate in their oral expression. Many researches show that, thisphenomenon is not only due to students’ personal problem, but more importantly because thatour high school English teaching has not yet found a more reasonable and effective teachingmode at present. The traditional teaching mode, which requires students to read and recite,can not meet the needs posed by social development and the students’ psychological needs.They desire a simpler and more feasible mode of learning. Therefore, improving students’English level, reforming and innovating the teaching mode are quite urgent.Based on the constructivism theory and guided by the teaching case mode, this paperattempts to discuss the question of how to improve and innovate the original mode of teachingso as to improve students’ English learning ability and teachers’ teaching quality. Theexperiments in the paper are designed to apply two teaching modes, one traditional, the otherteaching-case-based mode, and then we put both of them into implementation of Englishclassroom teaching, through the comparative analysis of the two modes and students’ testresults, we try our best to find a much more effective way of teaching, and finally to achievethe goal of improving students’ English level and teachers’ English teaching quality.The research subjects are two classes in Grade9of No.3middle school in Xixian,which is a county of the city of Xinyang, including a total of100students. This paper has verified the superiority of the teaching case mode under the guide of the constructivism theory,through the comparison of the students’ scores in the pretest and the posttest, andquestionnaire analysis. It also explores how to use a variety of learning tasks to increasestudents’ interest and improve the teaching efficiency.This study can to some extent help English teachers of junior middle school andprovide some English learning skills for those who are not good at English learning.
