Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT) is a language teaching approach, focusing on tasks. It is a greatly influential, popular language teaching pattern, which was carried out by researchers by way of many researches and practices in the 1980s and has been a new development of communicative approach in recent years. In the mid- and late 1990s, this teaching theory of doing things with the language was gradually introduced into English class teaching of fundamental education in China. This article tries to probe the history, development and operation of TBLT, to demonstrate its significance to China's English teaching, and to probe how to implement TBLT in China.Firstly (in Chapter Two), the paper introduces the form, development of TBLT, definitions of task, characteristics and principles of TBLT. Chapter Three and Chapter Four analyze the basic theory of TBLT and demonstrate the syllabus of TBLT and its class teaching patterns. Chapter Five expounds the fixed position of TBLT in China's English teaching, analyzes its practical significance to China's English teaching, and puts forward the proposals of how to operate TBLT. Chapter Six summarizes the paper and gives some prospects.
