Along with the progress of society and development of economy, the problem of how to develop mathematics instruction and promote students' universal development effectively has become the focus of international mathematics curriculum reform. In June 2001, our country launched a new round of mathematics curriculum reform in basic education area at the dawn of 21st century, with the symbolic characteristic of the renewal of teachers' education concept and the transformation of students' learning mode during its process. The introduction above is the background of our task.The mathematics activity teaching, whose formation and development is based on the absorption of teaching thoughts from the constructivism, John Dewey's Learning by doing and Freudenthal's Recreation, is a basic form of mathematics teaching. Its fundamental guiding thought is Promoting development with activities, and its fundamental acquisition mode is Students' initiative study. It emphasizes that the students should participate initiatively in the educational experiences and construction activities designed delicately by the teachers to acquire mathematics cognitive level and comprehensive development of multiple abilities.Through analysis we conclude that there are five basic principals in the mathematics activity teaching: the principal of question as center, principal of initiative construction, principal of adaptation, principal of students as subjects and teachers as guiding, and the principal of democracy.After defining the mathematics activity teaching, and discussing its principals and theoretical base, we try to put forward basic modes of the mathematics activity teaching. Combining with the cases collected by writer in the teaching frontline during the post graduate study and writer's own teaching practices, we then research and analysis these basic modes.At the last, with the research of cases in mathematics activity teaching and investigations on current situation, we summarize the problems which should be paid attention to during the designing and implementing process of mathematics activity teaching. We hope that can help the teachers who are studying and using the mathematics activity teaching.
