The 20th century sees the big development of the higher education of American women, who have regarded it an important path to their ideal lives . This essay tries to study and analyze equality issue between women and men within American higher education, concerning college-women's education and occupations. And further shows the effects of the higher education to women's personalities and marital lives. Up to the 20th century, through the long- term struggles and efforts of the feminist and the first-generation college women, the substantial progresses have been acquired to American women's higher education .The female college-students have caught up and exceeded the male students in number .The constitution of the female college-students also changed greatly, in addition to the white female students, the number of the black women and other races women also presents the up- trend. The female at universities in the 20th century are different in characteristics and appearance from their previous generation. They tried to combine together the traditional and modern life-style. The social sense of responsibility was with them, while having strong sense of independence and freedom. They always appeared with fashion image, sometimes even male-looked. Female college- students mostly study in the coeducation universities, also a small part study in the woman colleges. Although the number of the woman colleges is already very slim, they after all develop second- to -none females and scientist in the United States .So under the big trend of coeducation, the woman college has still the existent necessity. They carry an important mission- develop model female students for other universities. Coeducation has brought university females more opportunities to receive equal education with the male, this really benefit them to their personality- development, social interaction and their future career and marriage.
