Women's higher education in America started with women's fighting for their own power, and at the same time, it was needed by the development of economy after the Industrial Revolution. Women's higher education in our country was based on the development of girl's schools, and women's first college was a missionary school.The American Women's higher education started in the 1800's, and get perfection till 1860's. During the forming stage, the education goal was to upbringing good wives and mothers, the setting of the curriculum was concerned with traditional women's majors, and affected greatly by the research of sexual variations. After Chinese women's higher education experienced the pregnant period before the 20th century, the girl's schools developed quickly. In the early 20th century it formed a system. And the characteristic was that the Women's education in our country was affected greatly by European and American women's movements and women's education, and the country offered perfect environments. But the goal was still to upbringing good wives and mothers.The Women's higher education in America and China all put high premium on traditional women's majors. For example, women were compulsorily excluded from the respected fields, such as doctor, lawyer and divinity.Women's education has the characteristic of being partly feminized, which has a history of its own. Through the research on history realities, the paper holds that the reasons for forming characteristic come from women, the environments and the education. The comparison between America and China can help to find the factors that had promoted the development of women's higher education.America did well in illuminating women's self-consciousness and using the research achievements of sexual variations. And we can use the experience of America for reference. In the future, women's higher education in our country should care women's self-consciousness, regulations' implementation, and apply the research achievements of sexual variations to teaching methods.
