Schoolgirl’s Social Gender Consciousness Research Of Guangxi Universities

Gender equality is one of the important aims today, so the social gender consciousness, social gender mainstreaming and promoting the equality of gender has become what people most concerned about. Nonetheless, the gender inequality still exists, for instance, women remain in lower position in politics, employment and marriage and parenthood compared to males, which hinders the gender equal development. Combining with the related social gender theory, this paper research on schoolgirl’s consciousness of participation in politics, employment, marriage and parenthood, which is also as weak as reflected by real society, and whether boys and girl’s social gender consciousness also have difference, and the factors of girls who have own different characteristic whether have impact on their social gender consciousness etc.According to the quantitative research from Guangxi University students,the study found the girl’s consciousness of political participation are still weak, which performance in that their political attitude is inactive, political expectations is not high, willingness to participate is not strong. And found that girls are lack of self-awareness in terms of autonomy and reproductive rights of marriage, but they are inclined to bear with the couple together in the decision of domestic affairs, the management of family economic, and the household division of labor, which shows that the girls have the awareness to persue gender equality of the family status. In the choice of weighing of family and the career, most of the girls tend to choose the two. The study found the social gender consciousness of girls and boys are really differenent; Overall boys’consciousness of political participation, employment is more strong than girls’,in terms of awareness of marriage and procreation rights, boys have a strong sense than girls in addition, but boys are more traditional than girls in the awareness of rights of controlling domestic economic, housework division of labor patterns and reproductive rights, while girls are more inclined to persue gender equality awareness of family status. There are differences between boys and girls in career and family choices in favor. There are more boys than girls in the "men outside, women inside" pattern of division of labor.Through the study, in generally, to some extent, there are various factors such as feminine age,majors,the growth environment,politics status,student cadre identity, parents’jobs and their educational degree as well as politics status to affect feminine social gender consciousness.The study found the girl’s gender consciousness is weak because they are deeply influenced by the traditional social gender division of labor and the traditional gender concept, while their weak awareness of social gender leads them to a low participation in political and employment they are forced to have a low status in the marriage and family, a weak status quo in political and employment, which promotes gender status inequality. So if we would like to change the inequality status of gender, we must know that a training and education of girls’social gender awareness is a must.
