In 2001 Shanghai Education Committee released the policy for some of boarding schools in Shanghai to recruit excellent junior graduates from other provinces of China. Since then the number of schools involved and quota has been increased gradually. More and more junior graduates from other provinces, of China came to Shanghai to study.What attracted those students to come to Shanghai? What did they come for? What did they obtain and lose during the life and study here? Does the implementation of this policy lead to new inequality of educational opportunity which has been a heated topic recently? Above are the questions the thesis focused on and tended to solve.Based on the research during the students from other provinces in a Shanghai boarding school, the thesis looks into the inequality of educational opportunity brought by the family background and the current situation of those students.
