Job burnout is the concept put forward in the 1970s by American clinical psychologist Herbert J. Freudenberger during his research of job-related stress, meaning to describe a series of negative symptoms as psychological fatigue, flailing professional ability, diminished job passion, apathy, flailing job-satisfaction, etc as a result of long-term job-related stress that is not sufficiently attended. Ever since Freudenberger put forward the concept "Burnout", it has been used specifically on the job-burnout phenomena of people involved in people-helping occupation. Job-burnout is now divided into three sections: Emotional Exhaustion, Depersonalization and Efficacy. Such division is followed by most researchers. Teaching is not just another people helping occupation. Facing tens of students all the time, the homogeneity of their target of service is considerably higher. In addition, they are supposed to help the students in their study and growth, thus shouldering great moral burdens. The source and heft of their stress are different from other occupations. Their job burnout displays special characteristics and level. Presently, there are very few empirical studies on job burnout in China, but "teachers facing enormous pressure" is an inescapable fact. Based on such knowledge, I conducted research into 150 teachers from 6 middle schools in Nanjing, using Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI revised edition), Eysenck Personality Quest (EPQ) and General Efficacy Survey (GES). This research will be recorded in the second part of this thesis. The third part of the paper consists of analysis and comparison of relative statistics results, aiming at distinguishing the possible causes of teacher's burnout. The fourth part records face to face interview with some middle school teachers. The fifth part deals with the possible causes of teachers' burnout, which leads to the sixth part, suggestive solutions for the alleviation of teacher's job burnout.
