| This study is focused on the efficiency of task-based language teaching approach into a Senior English reading class. TBLT approach has been considered as one of the most promising methods of the communicative approach since 1980s and has recently gained considerable support within second language teaching community. It is based on traditional teaching theories and approaches and combined with the modern language teaching methods, This approach makes the students learn the foreign language by completing a series of interactive tasks of communicative activities that have definite guide to teaching and learning. During the learning process designed by the teacher carefully, students can leam, understand language by using it, so that they can improve the language ability. This experimental study, based on the teaching model of Jane Willis: pre-task, task cycle, language focus, is conducted to find out: 1. To investigate the basic reading model for TBLT in senior high school English class reading. 2. To test the hypothesis that TBLT is more effective than the other formerly used teaching method, (namely, the PPP in this thesis). It is a thirty-two week in- class training to first-year senior students mainly including two instruments: pre-test and post-test. It proves the correlative relationship between TBLT and reading achievements. The major findings are as follows: 1.TBLT is positively correlated with RC achievements; 2. the students who have received TBLT in English reading teaching have developed their reading ability more quickly than those who haven't accepted the training; 3.TBLT in reading in middle schools is an efficient way to cultivate learners' reading ability. The paper consists of six parts. Part One introduces the purpose and significance of this study. Part Two reviews the previous research on TBLT as well as practice both at home and abroad. Part Three presents the theory foundations of the study. Part Four introduces the hypotheses, subjects, instruments, variables, procedures of the study. Part Five reports and discusses the results of the study. Part Six draws the conclusion of the study and points out the implications and limitations. |
