China has a tradition of poetry teaching over the long history. But since the May 4th Movement, especially in the past five decades, actually it has rather difficult for the tradition of poetry teaching continue. Today with the voice going that we should put forward quality-oriented education in the Chinese language teaching, we are beginning to reexamine and return poetry's value and the position in the education of the Chinese language and aesthetics The essay aims at arousing the Chinese language teachers' attention to the poetry and probing some new means of poetry teaching by analyzing the difficult and embarrassing situation of the poetry, at the same time, it takes the poetry appreciation part in the entrance tests as an example, hoping that poetry will take on a new look.Opinions on the methods of poetry teaching varies a lot, but it should be the fundamental principal that poetry, poets, appreciators and poetry teachers should return to poetry itself. My personal understanding through the practice of long-time teaching about the roles of poetry are as follows: It can cultivate humanism, promote one's aesthetic standards and help one understand the real life. On the other hand, we should make "five returns": Firstly, poetry itself should be returned to teaching, and we should set up a view of poetry creation and make it clear to students that poetry expresses its emotions by creating images and conception.. Secondly, poets themselves should return to teaching. Poems should be understood in combination with poets' creating style and poets' living environment. Thirdly, poetry appreciators themselves should return to teaching. Fourthly, poetry teaching itself should return to teaching. The key teach students to appreciate the poetry is to interpret images and understand the conceptions. At the same time, it should be made clear that teachers role in poetry teaching is to guide students, with students as the subject. Fifthly, poetry creation should return to teaching, making students content to create poetry in the practice of poetry teaching, and above all, allowing students to create poetry in the tests and evaluations.The return of poetry teaching can not only benefit us life long, it can also promote civilization and attainments. To return the poetry teaching so that more people on the campus can get close to poetry and benefit from poetry is a matter of practice as well as a matter of realization: On the one hand it is involved with the allocation orientation of the poetry resources, on the other hand, it is involved with the implement of poetry teaching methods. The problem of how to understand the roles of poetry teaching under the notion of the new curricula and how to teach in combination with the poetry appreciation in the college entrance tests is still under exploration. The essay suggests some solutions to the urgent difficult problems, that's where the novelty of the essay lies.
