A Study On Gender Differences Of Urban Residents' Way Of Leisure And The Influential Factors

As the reform and opening up of our country, urban residents' life has been changed notably. People's leisure life has also undergone rapid and complex changes. The influence of leisure on the quality of residents' overall life has been increasing. Leisure has been widely accepted and are gradually becoming as a way of life. However, there have been gender differences in the discussion in terms of leisure. In the past, as the influence of traditional gender roles and inequality system of gender differences, male and female had been rather different both in leisure time and activities. Nowadays, with the feminist movement and the transfer of awareness among the people, the concept, rights and life of female are undergoing tremendous change. Modern women have set higher requirements on the material and spiritual enjoyment. More and more women actively participate in leisure activities with men. Their leisure awareness is ever-increasing. Based on the background, the paper has taken Shanghai, Wuhan, Chengdu as examples, and has chosen urban residents' choices on ways of leisure on gender differences and influential factors as objects of study. It has mainly inquired into these problems as follows:Firstly, the analysis of gender differences of urban residences on leisure activities. Based on empirical research from the perspective of leisure activities, the paper has mined the general principle and notable differences on the male and female. Meanwhile, it has analyzed geographical differences from the regional perspective.Secondly, the paper has looked into the deeper reasons of male and female leisure choices from the level of influential factors.Thirdly, the paper has compared three central cities of Yangtze River feeding ground. It has chosen Shanghai, Wuhan, Chengdu as examples, which are all the central cities of the three urban agglomerations located on Yangtze River's lower, middle and upper reaches and also stretch over the eastern areas of the same river valley. The paper has focused on the differences of city factors which greatly affect urban residents' way of leisure and city's civilization development. Then, it has proposed suggestions on promoting urban residents' leisure life.The paper includes four parts as follows: Chapter 1: Introduction. It is the theoretical foreshadowing of the whole paper. Chapter 2: The analysis of gender differences of urban residences on leisure activities. It has analyzed, compared and summarized the main characteristics and gender differences of their choices. Chapter 3: The analysis in the influential factors of the urban residents' choice of ways of leisure. It has analyzed the subjective and objective factors that influent their choices on ways of leisure. Chapter 4: Conclusions and Suggestions. It has concluded the results of the whole research and proposed suggestions of promotion urban residents' leisure life and leisure development of cities.
