With the deepening of its reform and opening-up, China has witnessed the information explosion, economic prosperity, and democratic progress. The pluralism of values and culture, therefore, has become the major characteristic of our society. We are faced with various contradicting ideas and have our own decisions to make. Accordingly, to equip our citizens with the decision-making awareness and ability has become one of the fundamental goals of education. The present research begins with the introduction of the decision-making theories, based on which the importance and feasibility of the decision-making instruction are discussed, and when put in a Chinese context, its status quo and necessity are further analyzed. It goes in detail to introduce the progress, in theory as well as in practice, of the decision-making instruction in the social studies in American schools. Conclusively, with the Chinese status quo in mind, the present research addresses a few suggestions for carrying on the decision-making instruction in China.
