Based on the "author-oriented" and "text-oriented" theories, teachers used to advocate a teaching method emphasizing the student's passive reception. With introduction of some ideas of reception aesthetics, a new tendency has occurred in reading teaching. Different from the "author-oriented" and "text-oriented" theories, reception aesthetics highlights the reader's interactivity emphasizing his creativity, which is indispensable, in reading. A great number of teachers have accepted ideas such as conjuring structure and enhanced the students' subjective role during teaching. Despite the achievements, there exist some problems in acquisition and practice of receptive aesthetics. Some teachers misunderstand the text by a divorce from it.An emphasis on the student's subjective role will be the tendency for reading teaching. It is, however, a significant issue on how to understand the subjective role the student plays in reading and how the student plays his role without deviating from the ideas which the text intends to tell. Through an analysis of the conjuring structure of receptive aesthetics, an examination of "blank" and "indefinite" features of the text, and an example-based illustration of the definite meanings rooted in the text, the author of this thesis points out that creative reading must be based on the text, and claims that the teacher, in subjective reading teaching, must observe the rules which are both text-based and dialogue-based. In addition, the thesis introduces some other rules must be obeyed by giving some interesting examples.Reading teaching with a focus on stimulating the student's subjectivity promotes the student's spiritual growth and enhances his reading ability. With more teaching practice, there will be more areas to explore in this field. Subjective reading teaching will be fulfilled if the student's subjectivity is respected and dialogue-based principle is valued. Therefore, Chinese educators are expected to make extensive researches to open up a new prospect in Chinese reading teaching in middle schools.
