Since the 1980s Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) has impacted on the foreign language teaching in China. However, problems remain with misconceptions and doubts about the feasibility of its application. The result is that even some senior teachers still use traditional pedagogy because they know little about it, and some young teachers use this method to teach grammar without a real understanding of it. These have caused many problems.This paper examines the background, theoretical foundation and main characteristics to make the concept of CLT well-defined in the first place. CLT is to make use of real-life situations in the course of teaching in order to impel students to obtain communicative competence. It takes foreign language teaching in common use as the core to a great extent, training people to obtain ability that use foreign language to achieve the goal of communication in daily life. Second, I choose two classes from Junior Two as samples for a research. The teacher applied CLT to one class, traditional pedagogy to the other class. Through contrasting the test achievements of one class with the other class, it proved that CLT is obviously superior to traditional pedagogy. Third, the paper emphasized the application of CLT in grammar teaching. We must upgrade the teaching idea that communicative view is defined as the core of English teaching at first and deals with four relationships in teaching, between students and teachers, between English and mother tongue, between knowledge and ability, relation among listening and understanding, speaking, reading and understanding and writing. In the concrete grammar teaching, the teacher creates the situation meticulously and cultivates students' communicative competence step by step.
