Classroom occupies the most important space in education and classroom teaching is its central activity. Classroom teaching, the major teaching form, is the core work and has a direct influence on the quality of students in colleges and universities. Due to some traditional ideas and the expansion of higher education, the quality of classroom teaching in universities has declined in recent years. Some prominent problems can be found in both teaching and learning.After investigating and analyzing classroom teachings in Southeast University and Qufu Normal University, this thesis attempts to search for the existing problems, explore their reasons and propose some measures for reforming classroom teaching in universities.The thesis makes a thorough investigation of classroom teaching in the two universities, adopting the research methods of classroom observation, questionnaire, student interview and literature review combined. Both qualitative and quantitative approaches are used in the study. Starting with some factors in classroom teaching like teaching goal, teaching methodology, teaching content, student behavior, psychological environment of teaching, the thesis probes into the main problems of classroom teaching in both universities: the loss of non-cognition and individuality teaching objective; monotonous teaching method, instilling-like teaching, ineffective classroom inquiries; the narrow scope of teaching content and the missing of humane connotation; ineffective class participation, learning with a worldly purpose and problematic behavior in class; the inequality between teacher-student interaction, only-knowledge concept and the negative aspect of classroom teaching atmosphere. On the basis of the above analysis, then the reasons for the problems are sought out when teachers, students and environment are taken into account. Finally, some corresponding suggestions and countermeasures are put forward.
