Today the competition among the international governments is science and technology, qualified personnel. So improving citizens' science literacy on science and education has already become the important aim of them. In the 21st century, the development of biological science is the fastest in natural science. Its action is obvious in many fields, such as health, science and technology etc. Biological science literacy is an indispensable part of science literacy.The junior high school is the key stage to develope science literacy. Through surveying biological science literacy of the junior high pupils, we can understand biological science literacy's level of them at present, which is advantageous to implement the new curriculum smoothly, thus promoting elementary education's reform, and the healthy development of science education.Biological science literacy is considered as the theme of the thesis. According to theoretical analysis of science literacy, of biological science literacy, and survey of junior high school pupils on biological science literacy, the thesis analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of the students on biological science literacy,and make a deeply thinking on how to improve students' biological science literacy.Based on the related texts, the thesis discusses definition of science literacy, deconstructs the composition of science literacy, then discusses the definition of biological science literacy, defines the composition of biology science literacy, and points out the structure of biological science literacy. It is a structural system that is made up of knowledge literacy, methods literacy, ability literacy, quality literacy, consciousness literacy.The survey of science literacy in our country is in the exploring stage. The survey of the middle school students on science literacy is in the initial stage.Based on the new biologic curriculum standard and "The Questionnaire Of 2001 On The Public Science Literacy", I draw up "The Questionnaire Of Junior High Pupils On Biologic Science Literacy" and survey junior high pupils in 6 middle school of Wuan City in deferent areas. The results show that the advantages of junior high pupils on biological science literacy lie in : the basic facts of biology and the viewpoints are better understood, the accuracy which the student replied are much higher than the public, which indicate the students have the good knowledge literacy. According to the concrete situation, the students can choice commonly biology methods, which reflects student's good biological method literacy. The students can distinguish the pseudo-science, can know the importance of environmental protection, which indicate they have certain biological quality literacy. The deficiencies lie in: the level of the students' information literacy is low, the innovative ability is lack of, the biological consciousness literacy is insufficient, the biological ability literacy is not good.In this foundation, the thesis analyzes: the educational ideas are not completely renewed, which hold back good formation of biological science literacy. The students' scientific information channel is limit, which caused the biological information literacy is in the low level. Scientific literacy consciousness of the main body on education was faint, thus affects the development of the students' biological science literacy. The thesis also analyzes the family, the school, the social factor which hold back the young peoples' biological science literacy .Through the survey and study, the thesis makes a deeply thinking about improving biological science literacy and proposes some educational measures. First the family, the school, the society should cooperate with all one's strength to establish the human environment.
