Today many developed countries aim their education reformation at cultivating students' good Science Literacy. The level of a nation' s Science Literacy directly affects the progress of its science and technology .The composite national power is consanguineously connected with people' s Literacy of the country. Compared with the developed countries, our nation' s Science Literacy is very poor now, and the low level of it is a factor which restricts our country' s social progress, economic development and winning competitions in the world. So Science Literacy should be raised to strengthen our country and encourage our nation.This essay is about what Science Literacy is, what forms Biology Science Literacy and how important it is to cultivate the students' Science Literacy in biology teaching . Biologic Science Literacy is made up of knowledge Literacy, ability Literacy and sensibility Literacy .Ability Literacy is the core of them. Developing the research work in Biology Science Literacy and satisfying nowaday' s demands in developing students' innovative spirit and practical ability can provide some gist for the quality-oriented education.This essay analyses the actuality of Science Literacy education all over the world, and especially analyses the status of scientific courses and the reformation scheme of scientific education in Britain and America .And it also analyses the characteristic of Biologic Science Literacy education in foreign countries. Now people think much of the Biology Science Literacy education. Some scholars bring forward that we should set out to develop our students' Biology Science Literacy in there ways: reforming the course structure and textbook, changing the teaching mode and method, and innovating biology experiment teaching.Consulting current international questionnaire on Science Literacy, that is, the fourth public Science Literacy questionnaire in China, during this research work a questionnaire on middle school students' Biology Science Literacy is invented to do a spot check among 8600 students in 12 middle schools in my city. According to the result to this questionnaire I find that there is a long way to go for the students to develop their BiologyScience Literacy and there are some problems in biology teaching. This essay investigates how to develop students' Biology Science Literacy in theory. The results of the research show that the basic ways and methods of cultivating students' Biologic Science Literacy should be:(1)changing teaching conception, optimizing class teaching. (2)strengthen experiment teaching.(3)advancing infiltrations and colligations among each subjects.(4)developing exploring-study .
