An Experimental Research On Training Of English Learning Strategies For English Majors In Vocational School

The importance of learning strategies in foreign language learning is drawing increasing attention nowadays. Since the 1970's, western applied linguists and psychologists have begun to study the individual differences between the learners. Their research interest has shifted from teaching to learning, and an increasing number of studies have been undertaken from the students' perspective. The early study of learning strategies is mainly based on the good language learner, and it is commonly recognized that good language learners appear to use learning strategies more frequently and in qualitatively different ways than learners who are less successful. After that, scholars tried to discuss the concept, definition and classification of language learning strategies. And now, focus of research is turned to the validity, training models and methods of learning strategies training. Later some studies on less efficient language learners are made and some learning strategies training are conducted, and it is well acknowledged that using learning strategies appropriately and sufficiently may enable learners to become more efficient in learning a foreign language.These findings in the studies made by foreign scholars have been tested in China. Chinese scholars also did many researches on students' use of learning strategies and the similar result has been found out. However, most students who have been involved in those studies specialize in English and they are college students. Little research on using or training learning strategies has been done on students in middle school, and the research of using English learning strategies on vocational schools students is hardly found.
