Ancient Chinese teaching plays an important role in teaching Chinese in middle school. In addition to the ancient Chinese language, the time-honored Chinese civilization is also conveyed in the teaching. Important as it is, however, ancient Chinese teaching, for various reasons, has not produced the outcome equivalent to its role.Improvement in quality and effect of ancient Chinese teaching is thus a key matter being studied among teachers and educators. Considering this, this paper suggests that literature study methods should be introduced to ancient Chinese teaching in middle school. There are three reasons for this suggestion. Firstly, the organization of texts used for ancient Chinese teaching is closely related to the organization of ancient literature, in short, it is the relationship of micro-system and macro-system. Secondly, equipped with the necessary literature study methods, teachers are able to construct, consolidate and consummate their own knowledge; learn the profound richness of traditional culture; and live by the principle of "real learning". And lastly, not only are literature study methods similar to ancient Chinese teaching methods, but the former may further improve the latter. The rich knowledge and methods organized and studied in the ancient time will provide the teaching with enormous "information database."Some research methods employed in this paper are: the combination of library research and practice analysis; the combination of literature study methods and ancient Chinese teaching methods; the combination of macro-system research and micro-system analysis. Though great efforts have been made in writing this paper, it is still far from being comprehensive. On the one hand, still much remains to be learned about literature study and theory; on the other, little has been done in the teaching process about the methods mentioned here in the paper.
