The idea for this thesis originates from the newly issued National English Curriculum Standards for General Junior Secondary Schools, in which the principal idea is to care for all the students, attach importance to quality-oriented education and highlight individual difference. Under the guidance of teachers, students will fulfill tasks and enjoy success through mental perception, experience, practice, participation and cooperation.Cooperative Learning has become a pervasive educational approach in the United States since 1970.There has been a growing consensus among researchers about the positive effects of Cooperative Learning on student achievements as well as social affective aspects, while personality has a great influence on the learners in Cooperative Learning. Extroversion and Introversion are the two main forms. So it's significant to study the teaching strategy and methodology through analyzing the students' extroverted and introverted personalities so as to improve the teaching quality in Cooperative Learning. This paper aims at finding out whether individuals with different personalities can succeed in English Cooperative Learning, whether CL is suitable for every student and applied to every aspect in English learning. The author makes the 10-month experimental study on the English speaking, reading and doing cloze in two classes of Junior Two to see how personality and Cooperative Learning affect each other, so as to draw an authentic conclusion. What the study also focuses on is to respect every individual and to encourage them to take part in activities bypractice, discussion and cooperation. The outcomes prove that only if the teacher cares for the individual personality difference can Cooperative Learning improve students' performance and promote their good personality.
