The past decade witnessed the new upsurge of Chinese students going to Australia.Compared with the previous two tides, the new wave is characterized by the growing number of Chinese teenage students pursuing secondary education in Australia. The current outflow of Chinese teenage students to Australia is largely ascribed to China's economic boom and Australia's education export policy. The economic flourish in China enables more and more Chinese families to afford the international education, and the fierce competition among students for tertiary schooling further strengthens their demand for international education. On the other hand, Australia is blessed with the reputation for providing international education of high quality. Chinese teenage student arrivals create a lot of opportunities to Australian schools and contribute considerably to the economic growth in Australia. Why do so many Chinese parents send their teenage sons and daughters abroad at such ahigh monetary cost and sacrifice the family union? What are Chinese families' attitudes towards receiving secondary education overseas? What are the common problems among the teenagers studying abroad? Is Australia an absolute winner in exporting secondary education? These are the major questions the dissertation tries to address. An insightful analysis will be given to the exploration of the driving force behind the current tide from both the Chinese and Australian perspectives. It examines the attitudes of Chinese parents and their children towards receiving international secondary education and deals with the common problems among Chinese teenagers in Australia. Moreover, Australia is studied objectively and the opportunities and challenges resulting from the arrivals of Chinese teenage students are fully investigated. The findings of the study support the conclusion that no matter what is expected from the international education, never make a hasty decision and follow the fashion.
