The Study On Self-identity Of The New Generation Of Migrant Workers

The new generation of migrant workers has been the main force of migrant workers camp. They impact on society gradually. However, their self-identity are in a pickle. The new generation of migrant workers related to so much of our social transformation in all aspects, which has a great relationship to China's urbanization and social change in rural areas. Identity of the new generation of migrant workers has become a important issue that should be solved during China's social transition.The study based on the previous academic research on the new generation of migrant workers and migrant workers, the study perspective of social constructivism is chosen, and the study method is combined with interviews and participant observation, which analyzes the self-identity of the new generation group of migrant workers of the service industries in Lanzhou city. The new generation of migrant workers holds the certain attitudes of their "peasant" identity which is given by system, but this recognition is low, or even excludes it. Their identity to the citizen is in high degree. However, because of the urban residents'exclusion during the daily interaction, the new generation of migrant workers'self-identity of "city people"within the group significantly reduced and turn to the peasant identity. The new generation of migrant workers doesn't have a clear identity position of their own future. The new generation of migrant workers becomes "marginal people"who can't fully integrated into the city but they were reluctant to return home as well.In the daily interactions with the urban residents, the new generation of migrant workers'self-identity originates from the sense of social distance and social exclusion, meanwhile, this identity is being constructed and symbolized through urban residents'words and daily interactions, and"migrant space", a unique urban space form further confirms this identity. The contradiction of psychology and cultural adaptation is the direct cause of the identity plight. The lack of cultural capital is an important reason and the missing of social relations is the fundamental reason.The plight of the new generation of migrant workers comes from the conflict between social construction and self-construction. The key measure to solve the problem of the new generation of migrant workers'identity is to help them get a positive sense of "city people"belonging, and enhance the status of subjectivity and achieve the development in the city. Enhancing the new generation of migrant workers'quality is the premise and basis. Creation of relaxed social environment and development space is the necessary conditions for new generation of migrant workers and rebuilding community "home"for them is a valid path.
