At present, an important trend in the new curriculum reform of geography is to develop student's ability to study voluntarily and cooperatively. Therefore, case teaching arises at the historic moment. Based on the curriculum standard of high school geography, the teaching material (PEP edition), pedagogy, psychology and the theory of geography teaching, and directed against the limited presentation of teaching case in optional teaching material, this thesis is to build, adapt and provide some tactics and living examples of teaching cases in teaching practice. The thesis is made up of four chapters: I .Theoretical research on teaching case; II. Tactics of teaching case development in optional courses; III.living examples of teaching cases in optional course; IV. The practice of teaching cases. It is only in recent years that case teaching has been introduced to geography teaching. Both the theoretical guidance and the practice of teaching case writing are worth further investigating. How to write a teaching case which accords with students' learning situation and achieves the teaching goal matters a lot in case teaching.Chapter I : This chapter analyses the theory, the definition and different types of teaching cases. It broadens the functions of geography teaching cases and enriches their types as well. It also believes that geography teaching cases should include special subject cases, comprehensive cases and subject studying cases. The theoretical foundation of the development of optional geography teaching cases is also explained in this chapter. On this basis, the development of teaching cases should follow the following principles: the readability principle, the model principle, the practicality principle and the timeliness principle.Chapter II: By comparing the teaching case of the domestic and foreign teaching materials, we can further find the following problems in the domestic optional teaching materials. For example, the design of the questions is simple. That is, the questions presented in the teaching cases tend to the simple, so that the students can easily answer them without the current knowledge. In addition, the contents of the questions are single. That is, the selected contents in the case violate the rule of students' learning geography, and a teaching case can be applied to the students of any grade. ChapterIII: According to geography curriculum standards, the present, based on the actual local situation mainly focus on special subject cases. The selected materials are mainly hot issues happening in the local areas, attempting to connect the geography learning points with social life, and trying to conform to the principles of writing teaching case.ChapterIV: The result of the study and practice shows that the development and practice of the teaching case of the optional course is practical. What's more, it can help improve some students' interest in geography as well as their grade. It can also change the passive learning method of some students.ChapterV :We also find some problems in the teaching case through practice such as how to perfect a teaching case, how to improve students' geography level of different students, and how to evaluate students' study, etc. These problems still need correcting and improving.
