Currently China's new-round fundamental education reform is going on. Whether this reform will succeed or not in geographical education has a lot to do with the quality of geography instructional design (GID). The geography instructional design is a very important part of improving the quality of geography teaching. America is the advocator of instructional design, so there is a lot of referential experience in geography instructional designs. Based on the National Charter on Geography Education, the current educational policy, "The outline of the Curriculum Reform of Elementary Education" and the geography curriculum standards, and guided by the theories of geography science, system science, teaching and learning and media, this thesis makes a comparison between the geography instruction designs between China and America from the aspect of geography instructional design for the first time.It includes 6 parts: the preface, the comparison of the current situation of the GID, a brief introduction on the GID in middle school, a comparison of the GID between Chinese and American, systematic GID based on curriculum standards, the conclusion.With the development of world curriculum reform of elementary education, the research on instructional design is becoming a spotlight. After analyzing the situation of instructional design, GID and comparing the domestic GID with oversea GID, this essay makes the research on the comparison of GID between China and America as research theme, which is in accordance with the need of the undergoing new curriculum reform and has a lot of realistic significance.As a very important part of geography education, the GID is closely related with the status of geography education.Therefore, the second part comparizes the status of geography education between China and America, which is the mat for the forth part.The comparison of GID between China and America must rely on some standards or thoughts. Therefore, in the third part, I define the GID and put forward the features, functions and theories of excellent GID.The forth part, the most important and innovative, compares the GID between China and America. In order to let the readers know better the procedure of GID between China and America, this part firstly compares the procedures of GID between China and America.Then, the comparison of the GID between China and America is made in terms of teaching thoughts, teaching goals, teaching contents, teaching hours, teaching models, teaching methods, teaching media, teaching evaluations.The fifth part puts forward the idea of curriculum-based and systematicGID based on the previous comparisons. That is, student-facing GID, the curriculum-based GID, systematic optimization of teaching process, which all depend on the overall improvement of teacher's quality.At last, in the part of conclusion, I summarize the basic ideas of the comparisons of GID between China and America, point out the problems existing in the research, and directions for future studies.
