In order to deepen the junior middle school geography classroom teaching reform,develop students' ability to deal with population,resources,environment and development issues.China issued the Compulsory Education Geography Curriculum Standard in 2011,and the United States promulgated the Next Generation Science Curriculum Standard in 2013.Nine years after the promulgation of the curriculum standards,this article discusses the similarities and differences of geography education in junior middle schools in China and the United States,using Xiangtan and Buffalo as examples.After comparing the junior middle school geography classrooms in China and the United States,we found that the junior middle school geography classroom teaching goals in China and the United States are basically the same.For example,both focus on the students' mastery of the curriculum knowledge and the cultivation of their abilities.However,the junior middle school geography class in the United States has higher requirements for students' practical ability,and places great emphasis on the integration of geography and other subject knowledge.This article compares and analyzes the similarities,differences,advantages and disadvantages of the two countries in the development of junior middle school geography classrooms,provides suggestions and ideas for further improving the junior middle school geography classrooms in China,and provides a reference for the development of China's geography education.This thesis consists of an introduction and five parts:The introduction mainly introduces the era background and research significance of topic selection,combs the domestic and foreign research status of geography curriculum standards and geography textbooks and illustrates the research methods of this thesis.The second part mainly compares and analyzes the nature and ideology of junior middle school geography courses between China and the United States.The third part mainly compares the junior middle school geography courses in China and the United States at the level of course goals.The fourth part compares the teaching organization and implementation of geography classrooms in junior middle schools in China and the US through questionnaires and interviews.The fifth part compares the classroom teaching quality detection methods,and summarizes the similarities and differences between the two countries in teaching evaluation.The sixth part is the concluding part,through the comparison of the junior middle school geography classroom teaching in China and the United States,some suggestions for improving the junior middle school geography classroom in China.
