The life of university students tends to attaching more and more importance to network, which makes the internet play an important part in the daily life of universities. This thesis employs virtual anthropology to analyze the reports of students BBS, which takes the BBS of a university in Chongqing as researching object. And it finally gets the findings as follows:University students play several typical roles in BBS communication - the role of grass-roots, the role of benefiting others by internet, and the different genders in the internet communication etc.The macroscopical and microcosmic factors shape the university students' roles in the internet. Macroscopically speaking, the Internet has greatly influenced all the aspects of human living; from the microcosmic point of view, the university students are processing from adolescence to adult, and the internet caters to the psychological need of their mental development. What's more, the democracy and openness of the BBS has also been one of the important factors for the successful e-roles.The e-role has active and passive significance on the socialization of the university students. For the active part, it is helpful to know themselves and form their own minds, even to increase the understanding between the male and female, and it is much easier to build good relationship between students and teachers; for the passive part, it is easy to wallow in the internet and become confused about the roles.And this thesis tries to compare the e-role and the realistic role, and propose strategies to harmonize the two roles -- establishing the proper role expectation and effective learning.
