On the basis of questionnaire study of 360 students from Shantou University about their strategies of emotion regulation, parental rearing pattern, and social support they perceived, we take an empirical study via statistical analysis method including correlation, t-test and analysis of variance .The results indicate:1. Generally, strategy of cognitive reappraisal adopted by the students is remarkably more than expression suppression;2. Expression suppression used by students of different gender verifies significantly. Boys used expression more often than girls. There is little difference on using of cognitive reappraisal;3. There is little difference on adoption of regulation strategies among students from different grades;4. The adoption of emotion regulation strategies correlates with parental rearing pattern significantly. To be specifically, suppression is related to negative parental pattern (excessive protection and denial/rejection) positively; reappraisal is related to negative parental pattern (hash/punishment) negatively.5. The adoption of emotion regulation strategies correlates with social support perceived by the students remarkably .Reappraisal is related to social support positively, while suppression related to social support negatively. Therefore, we suggest parents should adopt positive rearing pattern rather than negative ones to rear their child; teachers can help the students to realize and use positive emotion regulation strategies by showing them which kinds of strategies are more effective; and students should learn to use reappraisal more often to get more social support.
