Educating Students Heart And Soul: A Rural Teacher's Teaching Experience And Life Story In Taihe, Jiangxi Province

This thesis as a case study of the personal life of Dai Xiqian(1921- ),a rural teacher in Taihe, Jiangxi Province, with emphasis put on an penetrating analysis of his specific living conditions, educational background and teaching life, is to unravel the fundamental clues underlying the reform and development of rural education of our country since Minguo, attempting to save some clear memories of the eventful period of history and understand the historic changes which took place in the particular history experienced by rural teachers.The life history of a teacher is the occurrences and experiences he lives through during his life and teaching career within a certain social, cultural and historical context. It is not isolated and fragmentary memories of a teacher. Instead it is significant in two aspects: it tells the personal development of a single teacher on the one hand; and it can shed light on the teaching life of rural teachers as a group. This thesis narrates a rural teacher's true story, which aims to demonstrate the personal development of a rural teacher within Chinese culture, showing the ideal pursued by an ordinary rural teacher within the tremendous social changes. All will lead to a better understanding of belief system of teachers as a whole.
