Research-oriented study is a new move in respect to the reform of fundamental education in China, it also serves a key point focusing on implementing the principle of quality-oriented education characteristic with the spirit of innovation and capability in practice. It's only a few years since the concept of research study was put forward, but it has drawn wide attention of educational field. And the students who take part in the research study should choose from the natural and social phenomena or their own life, and then decide on the research subject under the teacher's direction. Carrying out research study, under the opening condition and with various study activities of acquiring knowledge, apply knowledge and solving problems through multiple channels, can change the students'way of study they just accept knowledge without thinking for themselves. It will help develop the students'positive study attitude and strategy and also their spirit of innovation and capability in practice.High school geography is a subject of strongly comprehensive and practical knowledge, which suits to research study well, and the geography course curricula also need research study, therefore, it is urgent to prompt research study. The geography research study ought to be of the characteristics of sufficient opening, thorough exploration and abundant practice, and of the theoretical foundations of pedagogy and psychology as the instructions at the same time.At present, senior high schools across China are carrying out experiments on research study. Meanwhile, An exchange of experience is being made frequently, which provide guide for our taking the research study further. Through the research into the research study carried out in different Shenyang senior high schools, this article analyze the current situation and problems carefully on the basis of observation, questionnaire surveys, interviews and continuous records, and furthermore find out the existing problems. In this paper I manage to prove the necessity and practicability of the geography research study in senior high school, put forth the theory that the geography research study should be combined with the geography class teaching. I try to put forward practical teaching strategies on the basis of my own teaching practice and achievements. This thesis analyses the present problems about the selection of a subject and puts forth the principles, types, strategies and its sources.
