Study Of Solutions To Improve Interest In English Learning Of Senior High School Students

It is said by a famous educational expert that successful education is not to force the students to learn but to stimulate their interest. So we can see that interest will drive the students to learn. Successful teaching method and ideal teaching effect should focus on the student's learning interest. Interest plays an important role to English learning. It is involved in the whole process of English learning, and it determines whether students could achieve success or not.The New English Curriculum Standard has raised a higher requirement on affective attitude, besides acquisition of linguistic knowledge. It aims at fostering positive affective attitude resulting in high motivation and interest. At the beginning, English learning interest is systematically elaborated combining with relevant theories concerning affection, motivation, etc. Simultaneously, the important role that interest plays on English learning and English teaching is pointed out.And then, the present situation concerning English learning interest of senior high school students is looked through by making use of methodologies, including observation, questionnaire, and interview. Later, the result of investigation is analyzed to conclude the general condition and characteristics of the present situation concerning English learning interest of senior high school students. Moreover, the reason which influences the English learning interest of senior high school students is analyzed according to the result of investigation, including the learners, teachers, school, and external environment.Finally, the author makes suggestions on how to improve the English learning interest of senior high school students based on the existing problems, so as to help the learners, English teaching and relevant social parties find an effective solution to this problem. As long as positive attitude towards English is formed and interest in learning the foreign language is motivated, the English teaching process could be smoothly implemented, and the learning level of the learners could be improved as well.
