High School English Learning Interest Investigation And Countermeasures

Interest is the best teacher. Learning motivation only accompanied by interest can last long. Interest is of great significance in English teaching. If students are interested in English, they will have a strong will to learn English well. They will take an active part in learning English. It is especially important to do a research on how to motivate the students'interest in English under the student-centered new curricula. The key to learning English well is to stimulate students'interest in English-learning. Making students really interested in learning English is not only the students'wish but also the teachers'goal in teaching as well. Teachers need to try every way to attract students to the teaching activities and stimulate the need and motivation of students to improve English teaching and learning quality.Teachers should take interest into account and arouse students' interest in English- learning. Interest sometimes is described as motivation, which is defined as the impetus to create and sustain intentions and goal-seeking acts because it determines the extent of the learners ' active involvement and attitude toward English- learning.This paper first presents the reasons why we should do the research and some related theories based on interest, need and motivation. Then it shows a sampling investigation into the actual state of English-learning interest of the students in Shanghai Zhujiajiao Senior High School. Interviews are held and questionnaires are issued. Only if students'interest in English-learning is improved can students'ability of English-learning enhance, which will makes the teaching vivid, impressive and easy. Finally, taking the above factors into consideration, some possible solutions to improving students'interest in English-learning are proposed.
