Since the later half period of 20th century, many developed nations have been doing reforms on promoting the generalization of high school education, in order to meet the demands of social politics and economy, and enhance the comprehensive national strength. America is one of the nations generalizing the high school education firstly, and the system of comprehensive high school makes great contributions to the generalization of high school education in America. The system of comprehensive high school borrowed by British,France,Germany,Japan and so on to various degrees, it enriches the patterns of high schools and promots the generalization of high school education in these nations. Today China is trying to generalize the high school education, and under such circumstance, the research on American comprehensive high school has both theorical and pratical meanings. This paper retrospects the developmental course of the system of high school education in America, expatiates the main contents of the system of high school education during the process of reform and development, analyzes the basic ideas based on which America bulids and perfects the system of high school education, and then summarizes some experiences of American comprehensive high education. Via these analysis and research, I put forward some revelations upon the generalization of high school education in China.The structure of this paper is below:Introduction:the part summarizes the meaning of this thesis,the objective of this research and the current research situation, then explains main research methods and definites the concept of"comprehensive high school".Part I The shortcomings of traditional system of secondary education in America and the necessities of building the system of comprehensive high school. The part retrospects the developmental situation of America secondary education before the 20th century, analyzes the shortcomings of such system, and then expatiates the necessities of building the system of comprehensive high school in America.Part II The building of the system of comprehensive high school in America. This part expatiates the background of building the system of comprehensive high school in America firstly, then mainly analyzes the establishment process of the system of America comprehensive high school and its main contens.Part III The reform and development of the system of American comprehensive high school.This part lays emphasis on the great effects of Conant on the reform and developemt of the system of comprehensive high school, and analyzes the internal reforms on the system of American comprehensive school after the second world war.Part IV Since 1980s the reforms on the system of American comprehensive high school education once more. This part expatiates the background and new conditions of this period's reforms, and further explores the outlet of American comprehensive high school education in the new century.Part VI some considerations of building,reforming and developing the system of America comprehensive high school. The part analyzes two basic ideas of building and perfecting the system of America comprehensive high school, which are the equilibrium of educational chances and pragmatism, and sums up the basic experiences of the development of American comprehensive high school education. Based on them, I put forward some suggestions about the reform and development of high school education in China.
