At present, Chinese teaching in primary and middle school is not completely quality-oriented because of the deep influence of exam-oriented education. For many years, students are receiving passively, training mechanically, repeating simply, lacking the process of experiencing, discovering, reasoning and internalizing, thus failing to develop their ability in an all-round way. The 21st century is an era of knowledge economy characteristic of knowledge and innovation, therefore it is immensely important to encourage students to foster a spirit of innovation and develop their practical abilities. In order to promote the quality-oriented education in an all-round way, meet the needs of the new age, produce talents with innovation spirit and practical abilities, Chinese teaching in primary and middle school should change the passive simplistic learning model, and vigorously advocate a model of self-access and discovery, thereby fostering the students' spirit of initiative and discovery, and teaching their method and strategy of discovery. Proceeding from the present situation and characteristics of Chinese teaching, as well as the needs of development of the society and students, based on Bruno's theory of "discovery study", this thesis studies potentials of learning Chinese in discovery ,the theoretic source, fundamental principles and basic features of "discovery study", expounds the relationship between "receiving study" and "discovery study" and its specific practice in Chinese teaching in primary and middle school, including the principle, category, steps, main approach and examples of the practice, thus evaluates and examines closely the value of "discovery Chinese teaching", meanwhile gives points for attention so that seeks the effective approach to foster students' spirit of innovation and practical abilities, establishes practically workable discovery Chinese teaching, shifts our traditional teaching concept, and brings about a revolution of study methodology to the present depressing situation of Chinese teaching.This will exert a profound and long-lasting influence on the development of educational theory and practice, and it is also the internal demand of this new curriculum reform, thus calls for the whole team of Chinese teaching to take it seriously.
