Subject is the fundamentally academic unite of the college, and also the basis to support the college' s survival and development. The reflection of the characteristics, competitive advantage and academic reputation depends on the level of key subject. Academic platform is the important base for college to play its main functions (personnel training, scientific research and social service). This paper mainly uses education, management, economic and other related subjects' theories from reality, integrates with the key subjects' relevant data in construction of Hunan "Tenth Five—Year Plan for the Key Subject" and quotes the core competitiveness theory. Core competitive power of key subjects at Hunan universities have been studied emphatically. The main purpose of this study is to conduct an objective and accurate analysis and evaluation on core competitiveness of Hunan universities key subject theory, providing theoretical support for technological breakthrough of major fields and reference for the steady development of Hunan institutions of higher learning.The thesis defines and analyzes the concepts "subject", "discipline construction", "key subject construction" and "concept of features and construction of competitiveness of key subjects" Then it analyses the situation and points out the core competitiveness of key disciplines at Hunan universities and specifically analyses the cause of the problem. In addition, it explores such factors as lack of integration strength of discipline resources, descending of discipline culture, not good effect on readjustment of the subject' s direction, weakness of the subject' s competitive awareness, frequent movement of stuff and personnel and so on which hinder the rising of core competitiveness of key subjects in Hunan' s institutions of higher learning.Based on the above analysis, the paper concludes with a countermeasure to enhance the competitiveness of key subjects of Hunan university: increase investment, integrate resources, promote innovation, improve management, press ahead the implementation of the strategy of extensive subject and integrated construction, enhance subject evaluation, etc.
