A Study Of Marine Environmental General Education In Universities Of Guangdong Province, China

Universities, which are the major basement of talented person training, taking the important mission of Marine Environmental Education, and it can't be achieved only by Professional Education, but also by General Education. General Education has becoming more and more important in training students in universities. Marine Environmental Education can be achieved in General Education, Marine Environmental General Education plays an important role in Marine Environmental Education, especially in such a seaside province like Guangdong. This research aims on finding out the situation of Marine Environmental General Education and its courses'target, content and implement. The author hopes that the results of this research could be used as references for implement of Marine Environmental General Courses and their content perfection in universities of Guangdong.The author tried to do this research by investigating (questionnaire, courses) and interviewing. The author investigated 506 students from South China Normal University, Guangdong University of Technology, Guangzhou University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, South China University of Technology and Sun Yat-Sen University. The author also investigated 33 universities'Environmental Education courses and the contents of Marine Environmental Education courses (including 14 of Guangdong province). The author interviewed Academician XIE Xian-de from Russia Academy of Science ,Professor XU from Guangdong University of Technology and other three teachers .The conclusions of this study are: 1.The contents of currant Marine Environmental General Courses are lack of marine rights. 2.Sudents are short of marine knowledge and awareness in universities of Guangdong . 3.The comparison of universities who have Marine Environmental General Courses is 26.09%, and even smaller in some local and common colleges. 4.The contents of Marine Environmental General Courses should combine with many aspects, such as the latest ocean academics researches, news, students'daily life experiences and so on. Finally it studyed the target, content and implement of Marine Environmental General Education in universities. It suggested that it is urgent for China to improve the whole citizens'marine awareness in order to become a marine powerful country, so is Guangdong to become a marine powerful province. It needs to enhance Marine Environmental General Education, enlarge the construction of Marine Environmental General Courses and make their contents perfect in all universities of Guangdong including the big ones and the local colleges.
