Study On The Status And Mode Of Environmental Legal Education In Universities And Colleges Of Guangdong Province

With the development of human society from the 20th century, a series of global environmental problems has become apparent. In 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, environmental problems made it clear that mankind must follow the road of sustainable development. To promote sustainable development, education, especially environmental education, as an important approach and tool, has a very positive function of raising people's environmental awareness and forming the right views of development. National Environmental Protection Conference was held since 1973, environmental education of our country has developed and improved. Three administrations, including the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Ministry of Education and the State Environmental Protection Administration, promulgated a document in 1996, The National Action Program for Environmental Publicity and Education (1996-2010),which pointed out that university students were one of the people who needed to receive environmental education. Furthermore, environmental legal knowledge was included in environmental education content. It shows that environmental education in higher education is one of the important parts of Chinese environmental education and environmental legal knowledge cannot be overlooked when promoting environmental education. At the same time, attention to environmental legal education not only can promote the development of environmental education and enrich the content of environmental education, but also make contribution to China's legal society construction and environmental legal system.Based on the analysis of the national and international development of environmental education and environmental legal education and the purpose of getting to know how to carry out environmental legal education in colleges and universities, the research focused on the status of environmental legal education in colleges and universities in Guangdong. The students'environmental legal knowledge, environmental legal awareness and their view about environmental legal education were surveyed by using questionnaires, and the affected factors of their environmental legal knowledge were analyzed. The students come from six colleges and universities in Guangdong province. The university teachers'awareness, attitudes and perceptions about environmental legal education was understood through interviews. According to the above analysis of the survey, the research concludes: environmental legal education wasn't carried out in every college and university of Guangdong province; the students lack environmental legal knowledge and need to raise their environmental legal awareness; there were some factors to affect students'learning in specialized and non-specialized environmental legal education. On the perspective of teaching, the research constructed the initial mode of environmental legal education in accordance with specialized and non-specialized educational features, and proposed the suggestion on the development. The environmental legal education should be paid attention in the colleges and universities. The level of environmental legal education should be raised. Therefore, we must strengthen the development of environmental legal education as well as enhance the construction of legal system and the sustainable development of society in Guangdong Province.
