Composition writing is an important way to express oneself or communicate with others by means of linguistic words. It is a process of acknowledging oneself to the world, self-awaring, and creative expressing. As a critical part of Chinese teaching, the aim of composition writing is to teach students to write, to cultivate their writing, and to improve their thinking ability. Meanwhile, writing ability is also a comprehensive reflection on Chinese quality. Thus, the value of composition writing is to enhance students'ability to take part in the social activities and recognize the true value of life, which will activate their thinking about life, their experiencing of life, and eventually improve their self-development.With the trend of concerning to human life in education, the humanization of curriculum reform and the student-orientation of classroom teaching, life value attracts more and more attention in composition writing. Based on the theories on life and humanism, the paper combs the evolution tracks of composition teaching, confirms the definitions and principles of the life value in writing, and promptly presents the practical strategies to realize the life value during the process of composition.The paper consists of four parts. The first part is the introduction, which proposes the research questions and purposes of the paper, followed by theoretical basis, methodology and the concerned definitions. The second part is the literature review on life value in composition teaching. During the process of combing the history, it analyzes the reason for life value orientation in different phases of research. It eventually confirms the necessity for an innovation in composition teaching. The third part of the paper explains the life value in composition writing, protecting the dignity of life, cultivating the life potential and improving the quality of life, which will help students realize the value-oriented life. Finally, five theoretical principles are clarified. The principles are self-doing, automating, opening, whole-course arranging, and individualizing. In the fourth part some cases of composition are analyzed, upon which some practical strategies to realize the life value in composition teaching are offered from four perspectives of teachers, students, curriculum and assessment.
