Any speech and the written word of a nation in this world is not only a symbol or a communication tool. On the one hand, they reflect the thinking mode of knowing the world of the people. On the other hand, the national culture attached to the speech can be inherited and develop. Since they have the same ancestor, Taiwan and the mainland have many things and aspects which are similar or identical, especially Chinese as a mother tongue. Nowadays, a quarter of people in the world are using Chinese. It will be of great help to make Chinese used worldwidely if we can collect the Chinese teaching experiences of both by exploration.Within the context of new curriculum reform in Taiwan, focusing on the Taiwan revised program for Chinese textbooks, the concept based on its program, the compiling principle and the system of its textbooks, this thesis gives an explanation of the internal framework of Chinese textbooks, by analyzing the compiling rules of the model essays of Chinese textbooks of Taiwan Dongda; the subjects selection of the vernacular and the classical Chinese; the exploration of how to balance the internal relationship among Chinese knowledge, the capacity , thoughts and feelings. And Chinese as the mother tongue, how do the textbooks embody the orientations of social values and the ideology of the ruling class.The thesis is aimed to gain some idea of the contents of Chinese textbooks in Taiwan senior high schools by content analysis and comparative analysis. For the purpose of knowing the contents and the ideology involved, through the characteristics of the subjects, content analysis is used to decide the items and standards by which to have the current textbooks of senior high schools in Taiwan counted and analyzed. ( Chinese , Volume 1- 6, the new edition, published in Feb., 2004, Taiwan Dongda Ltd. ) It can also involve the analysis of both quality and quantity. This thesis is focusing on the analysis of quantity with less analysis of quality of the items. Comparative analysis attaches much importance to the differences of Chinese textbooks of senior high schools between the mainland and Taiwan. By doing so, we can know about the Chinese teaching status quo in Taiwan and learn from its merits for a frame of reference of our reform.
