The theory of Cooperative Learning has made the greatest impact on the modem educational theory. And it is one of the fields that have been greatly fruitful since these years.Abroad, the research of CL can be traced back to the early 20th century. By the time of 1960s and 1970s, the theory, which is considered as a kind of strategy, has rigorously developed. From the 1990s, CL has been popular with the teachers and the students. The reason is that it has made a major breakthrough in the traditional trend of teaching techniques, which is so-called "TianYa"(the cramming method of teaching)style. CL is adapted to the current trend of educational reform in China. At the same time, the affective factor of the learners' plays a key role in the pattern of CL. As a result, the research of the affective factors in the learning strategy has improved greatly in recent years.The aim of the thesis is to promote the competence of English learning of the middle school students. The author attempts to apply the CL strategy to English learning in the middle school class. And CL can improve the interaction of affection/emotion among the students. The research emphasizes the autonomous effect in the course of learning. Group learning inspires the students' interest of learning. And the strategy of cooperative learning helps the student to get the achievement of English acquisition. The students can thus develop their self-esteem.
