This thesis, by investigating arid analyzing learning motivation ofmiddle school students in English Study, attempts to indicate theimportance of inspiring students' motivation and applying severalpractical instructional strategies in teaching.Motivation is considered by many to be one of the main determiningfactors in success in developing a second or foreign language. The newEnglish curriculum puts great emphasis on language motivation and takesit as one of the goals of English teaching. In class, teachers often findsome unmotivated students who are insufficiently involved and thereforeunable to develop their language skills. How to motivate these students isthe common issue met by all English teachers and it is also the maincause that we do research into students' language learning motivation.Motivation is very important in English learning, therefore, it is ofgreat importance to study students' learning motivation in Englishteaching in middle schools. As English teachers, it is very necessary forus to stimulate students' English learning motivation by using appropriateteaching strategies. According to the different study perspective, Englishlearning motivation can be divided into two dichotomies: integrative vs.instrumental, and intrinsic vs. extrinsic. One can study English better if he has a correct learning motivation. We should study the relationshipbetween intrinsic motivation and extrinsic ones, as well as the factors thatinfluence them, so that we can use appropriate strategies to stimulatestudents' learning motivations by making use of internal and externalmotivations.Here in this thesis, based on the theory of motivation, the authortalked with many students as well as teachers, and puts forward somepractical English teaching strategies according to her own teaching:target stimulating strategies, timely feedback strategies, successexperiencing strategies, competition and cooperation strategies,curiosity-arousing strategies and active attribution strategies. She hopesthat the processes of teaching and learning will tend towards greaterharmony and unification by means of enforcing students' learningmotivation, thus achieving the best teaching result.All in all, since motives plays such important roles in English studyand that nowadays students lack such motives, to stimulate students'study motivation is the issue our English teachers should take into seriousconsideration. What they should do first is to apply appropriate teachingstrategies to stimulate students' English learning motivation to get thebest teaching results.
