English reading, a procedure of learning and teaching English language inmiddle school, is an essential way of getting information from the globe andcommunicating with others. Therefore, better comprehension on readingmaterials will directly serve for accepting the information. In terms of studentsin middle school, it is important for them to acquire reading ability.With the development of science, not only the students are required toimprove reading ability, but also the teachers in schools, need to innovate theirteaching strategies because of the out-of-date traditional methods. However, it isadmired that some researchers have already started to study teaching strategieson English reading. I'd love to work on the research, and hope to be one of themfor finding a way to improve students' reading ability according to new Englishcurriculum standard.The dissertation is consisted of five parts. Reading ability and factors ofaffecting reading illustrated in the first part, is to identify reading and readingability. The second part tells the conception of reading strategies on Englishteaching and its requirements. Reading teaching, based on psychology andpedagogy theories, are in the third part. That is, English teaching on readingshould be supported by psychology and pedagogy. Various teaching strategies onEnglish teaching and three reading models, are reviewed in the fourth part. Thelast part, is the most important one in the dissertation, encompasses analysis ofthe present reading teaching in middle schools and construction of teachingstrategies. As for the students in middle schools, I try to construct Englishteaching strategies based on the analysis of the present reading methods.
