In the special educational field, sports are benefit to body and mental health, and also can improve abilities of taking care by self and adapting society.hence contribute to the development of the students'intelligence. This thesis makes a comparative experimental study between three different teaching methods in the physical education classes in brain training schools. The three teaching methods are concerned with the teaching of open motor kill, closed motor skill and open-closed motor skill respectively. There are few studies on improving the intelligence of mental retardation students through physical education. But in the special education field, the bodily-building and mentally-improving physical education is badly needed. So studies on this respect are, both academically and socially, very necessary. This study means to arouse the attention of professionals in physical education field and enable them to make more contribution to the study in this respect. The purpose is to supply those brain training schools with a relatively convincing referential evidence that brain training is necessary and feasible by exploring the question of what kinds of motor skills might be conducive to the development of intelligence. This study takes out one class from each of the following schools as the subject of the experiment: Brain Training School in Pingjiang District, Brain Training School in Jinchang District and Brain Training School in Canglang District. All three Schools are located in Suzhou. In these three classes, three different experiments are carried out. Each of the following three motor skills is trained respectively in the three classes: the open skill, the closed skill and the open-closed motor skill. This experiment lasts a semester. The intelligence, choice reaction time and simple reaction time of the subjects are tested before and after the experiment. All the tests are carried out according to The Screening Scale for Children Intelligence and EP202/204 reaction time. The major findings are:⑴During the intelligence test for the three groups of students, for half of the students or most of the students their scores on the all-including scale, the language scale and the performance scale all increased to various degrees;⑵From the analysis of the relationship between intelligence and reaction time, it is found that the result of this study confirms the existing views that there is a negative correlation between intelligence and reaction time, and the negative correlation is more evident when it is choice reaction time;⑶Different motor skills have different influences upon children with lower intelligence. Though the difference is not large, the average increasing percentages in the sample T tests for the three groups before and after the experiment show that the effect of open motor skill is the best, that of the synthetic motor skill or the open-closed is the better, and that there isn't a marked change in the closed motor skill trainees;⑷While analyzing the result of the experiment, it is found that the scores on the performance scale are higher than the scores on the language scale, especially in the open motor skill group, which tells us that the intelligence improving effect of physical training is realized to a greater extent through increasing their performance abililty.
