With the advancement day by day of the globalization process, the society needs talents with the very spirit of co-petition—that is, being both competitive and cooperative in business. Meanwhile, with the progress of curriculum reform, issues such as changing the traditional teaching style, training students'ability to exchange and cooperate are paid rapt attention. This demands education to not only deal with training students'cognitive ability, but also to tap their non-cognitive abilities. The cooperative teaching theory is a kind of more mature teaching theory developed both at home and abroad; it has notable effect in promoting students to form good cognitive quality, praised as one of"the most important and most successful reform in education of the past ten years."The text selects ordinary high school students choosing basketball optional course as research object, adopting a series of methods such as documents and materials, questionnaire investigation, teaching experiments, mathematics and statistics etc, according to the current research situation of cooperative teaching theory at home and abroad, to carry out a meticulous in-depth analysis of the theoretical foundation, definition of concept, teaching program and the teaching practice of the basketball optional course. It has been theoretically proved that it is viable to take a cooperative approach to the basketball course and it is also beneficial for students to improve their non-cognitive abilities. The teaching practice of cooperative teaching for high school basketball courses proves that the cooperative teaching method can not only improve students'physique and technique conformable to the teacher's objectives, but has distinctive advantage in promoting their communicative skills and their recognition and understanding of the co-petition concept. It could be seen from questionnaire investigation of students, the cooperative teaching method takes great credit for the cultivation of interest and sense of participation and non-cognitive abilities, obviously superior to the traditional teaching method; so, the cooperative teaching method is not limited to ordinary high school basketball optional courses, but has also offered valuable reference for the teaching of other sporting disciplines, especially the reforms in education of practice of the collective sports events.
