On Offering Of Beach Volleyball Elective Course In Colleges And Universities In Dalian

As an indispensable part of college and university education, physical education plays an invaluable role in establishing students'sports awareness and cultivating their sports habits. In the new development period, physical education in colleges and universities should reconsider the original educational ideas and concepts, and actively gets adapted to the main tide and reform of physical education in the world. The development of physical education in colleges and universities in the future should center on body-building, develop sport events with sense of life, expand the sports knowledge of the students, establish consciousness of life sports and cultivate ability of body-building via sports.[1] Therefore, college and university physical education should develop new curriculum contents, and offer courses that can both strengthen students'physical fitness and cultivate in the students positive spirits. Beach volleyball, which is a new sport event, conforms to the situation. Since college and university students in China have the basic knowledge and skills of volleyball, the beach volleyball can be easy to learn. In addition, beach volleyball is defined as"the most outstanding sport event in 21st century"which is very close to nature. It is believed that the introduction of beach volleyball into the curriculum of college and university physical education will be loved by the students.The research aim of this paper is to promote and popularize beach volleyball in colleges and universities in Dalian through the research on the feasibility of offer of beach volleyball elective course. The research methods adopted in this paper include documents and materials research, questionnaire, experts'interview, field survey and mathematical statistics. This paper makes profound investigation and analysis of the theoretical bases, significance, value, advantages and influencing factors of offering beach volleyball elective course in colleges and universities in Dalian. The main findings are:(I) It is feasible to offer beach volleyball course in colleges and universities in Dalian because of the following reasons: the guiding ideology of quality education and health-first; lifelong sports; being consistent with the trend of college and university physical education curriculum reform; correspondence to teaching philosophy of happy physical education; correspondence to social demands for compound talents. The advantages include: superior geographic location and fine climate in Dalian; supports of experts and administrators of physical education for offering beach volleyball course; good teaching faculty with high scientific research ability; good volleyball foundation in colleges and universities helping to promote the development of beach volleyball; explicit intention of students in respect of the offer of beach volleyball elective course; supports of teachers and students.(II) Currently, none of the colleges or universities in Dalian offered or is offering beach volleyball elective course, nor does any of them has beach volleyball ground except that Liaoning Normal University possess a beach volleyball team and have participated in some matches. The influencing factors include: lack of general environment for the offer of beach volleyball course; insufficient relevant knowledge of the teachers and students; lack of textbooks; shortage of related funds; lack of beach volleyball ground; insufficient propaganda, etc.(III)The offer of beach volleyball elective course in colleges and universities in Dalian requires above all that Dalian College and University PE Affairs Committee should make plans and gradual guidance; offer necessary training for teachers; organize beach volleyball league matches; promote the construction of field and equipment; speed up the development of textbooks and carry out experimental teaching in Liaoning Normal University and cover all colleges and universities in Dalian.
