Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(ADHD)is one of the most common and most complex psychological and behavioral disorders in children. ADHD has been the research subject that received far-ranging attention from psychologists for children, educationists, psychiatrists for children, teachers and parents with increasing prevalence year after year . The development of adaptive behavior is significant for the development of mental state, especially for the children's socialization in the developmental process of children .Many researches showed that children with ADHD had deficits in social adaptation. The domestic researchers focus on the evaluation of social adaptive behaviors of ADHD. There are few researches about developmental characteristic of adaptive behaviors of children with ADHD. As an important influencing factor for growing up of children, in addition, family environment is closely related to the adaptive behaviors of children with ADHD. However, there are few researches on the relationships between them.The stage of elementary school is the most important period for acquisition and development of adaptive behaviors. Therefore, 80 pupils with ADHD living in the city were investigated with two questionnaires including Family Environment Scale- Chinese Version and Children's Adaptive Behavior Scale to evaluate the level of social adaptive ability .The text discusses the characteristic of adaptive behaviors of pupils with ADHD combined with sex and age . Further, it explores the characteristic of family environment for the pupils with ADHD and the relationship between family environment and adaptive behaviors to fill the past blank of similar researches. Finally, the study analyses the family environment factors influencing the development of adaptive behaviors to offer the scientific foundation and direction for cultivating social adaptive ability and performing educational intervention for parents.The results :the overall adaptive ability of pupils with ADHD is at a fairly low level. There are some deficits in sense-activity, self-care, language-development, etc. The developmental level of cognitive function and self-control is also low. There are respective characteristics of the development of adaptive behaviors items combined with age. No significant difference is occurred between male and female pupils for adaptive ability. The family feature of pupils with ADHD is at poor level of family cohesion ,expressiveness, independence, achievement orientation, intellectual-culture orientation, organization and high level of conflict. There is relationship between adaptive behaviors factors of pupils with ADHD and family environment factors in varying degrees.The conclusion of the study indicates that the adaptive ability of pupils with ADHD is at a fairly low level. Family environment factors are closely related to it. So family, school, hospital, and community should pay attention to the development of adaptive behaviors of pupils with ADHD together. Creating healthful, positive, and harmonious family environment to train or improve the adaptive ability of pupils with ADHD.
