The Study On The Undergraduates' Cultivating Model Of The American Research Universities

Along with the arrival of 21st century that is leaded by the knowledge economy, the society is developing at a great speed, and the universities that provide talents for community have come to the central part of it, especially the research universities which play the key role in the high education system. In order to promote the construction of high level modem research universities that fit the situation of our country, to adapt to the fast development tendency of the world's science and technology, as well as to face the challenge of knowledge economy, we should learn from the world top-ranking universities, take in their experiences and lessons. Research universities in American which outnumber any other countries are the leader of high education in the world; however, their undergraduates' education has suffered innovation and reconstruction. Therefore, the study on the American research universities do not only has great meaning for the development of Chinese research universities' cultivating model of undergraduates, but also has the significant enlightenment for solving the problem and obfuscation during the construction.Based on the comprehensive analysis of the successful experiences from the beginning to the developing time of the American research universities, and the characteristic of undergraduates' cultivating model, this paper adopts the method of demonstration analysis and synthesis investigation to study on the cultivating aim, courses, teaching method and administration system of the undergraduates in the research universities by taking MIT as the example.
