English reading strategy is an instrumental process in which students consciously and purposefully adjust their reading activities using a series of reading approaches skills. Training of reading strategies improves students'reading grades efficiently and their ability of self learning. This thesis focuses on how to develop students'reading strategies and to enhance the ability of their reading comprehension.This thesis consists of five parts. The first part mainly introduces background and significance of the subject choosing, conformation of the problem researching, the research approaches, the aim, the object and the key problems to be solved; the second part is literary review, in which the research achievements and present conditions on learning strategies, reading strategies and action research, and etc. are reviewed; the third part is the focus of this thesis. It describes the action research pointing exactly against English reading strategies in senior high school. In this part, the description and analysis of the present teaching conditions, the hypothesis of action research on English reading strategies in senior high school, the design of research plan and the actualizing of the plan are included; the fourth part contains analysis of the research results; the last part sums up and reflects on the research thoroughly.In a word, with the help of educational psychology, recognition theories, theories of learning strategy and action research, the writer carries an action research into execution on English reading strategy in senior high school. The results indicate that reading strategies play an important role in promoting students'reading comprehension, and the strategies applied to students'English reading class can efficiently benefit for students'awareness of autonomy and get them actively involved in the language learning. And the application of reading strategies demands teachers and students to cooperate well and to interact with each other in the reading class. Action research involves the collection and analysis of data related to some aspect of our professional practice. Action research on English reading strategies in senior high school is practically and theoretically meaningful for teacher development.
