The importance of English reading comprehension has been widely accepted. How to improve the English reading level of the junior high school students has been the topic concerned by both researchers and English teachers. This is not only because the students get information mainly by reading materials,but also because it can develop the students'linguistic ability by providing the most efficiency and important language input. The aim of the English reading teaching is not only to improve the students'linguistic ability,but also consolidate the students'reading strategies.This dissertation is an attempt to help junior middle school students analyze different kinds of reading strategies and then consolidate these reading strategies during the elementary period of their studying English and meanwhile supplies some teaching suggestions to improve the existing teaching method and skills of English reading. However,how to apply these theories . To their teaching practice and gradually build individual theories of teaching reading and offering better and valuable suggestions is a more important and practical problem for many English teachers in middle school.Action research based on self-reflection teaching model is one of the methods which can bridge the gap between educational theory and professional practice and has in recent years become a popular pedagogical theory and research approach in the foreign countries.The thesis consists of five chapters:In Chapter 1,the author present the problem according to the investigation about the students'English reading ability;In Chapter 2,the author presents the theory about teaching action research ,reading and English course theory;Chapter 3 is the key part of the thesis. At the beginning,the author reflects the model of teaching English reading ,she has followed all these and realizes there exists some problems with it. After that ,she carries out the action research step by step .Chapter 4 is about the plan and the process of the action research;In Chapter 5,the author analyzes the data,which is collected during the whole process,and then conclude the research;Chapter6 is the ending words.Compared with the reading report of the two classes , the analyzing results can also testify that the hypothesis of this thesis is untenable,We can also say that the Strategies-based Instruction can improve Grade 8 students' EFL reading efficiency. The researching method also provided junior middle school teachers in their actual teaching activities with application of prefabricated chunks and concrete suggestions in developing the students'reading ability .
