English writing ability has manifested the students'English comprehensive quality. The current English Curriculum Standard says, the four language skills are composed of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Listening and reading are called'receptive'skills; speaking and writing are called'productive'skills. These skills complement and promote each other in linguistic learning and communication. Students should develop integrated ability of English using on the basis of lots of practical learning activities. The Curriculum Standard puts emphasis on developing students'communicative ability in written English. However, for many years, English writing always is the athletic event of senior students in which they are weak, and is also the English teaching weak link. Therefore, we must explore positively the change of original English writing way, enhance the students'writing interest and the efficiency in order to achieve the request of the new curriculum and the new college entrance examination. Under the cooperation learning theory, senior English writing is the right way of solving this question.This thesis has five chapters: Chapter One is the introduction which analyzes the present situation of the teaching of English writing and comes up with the idea of carrying out cooperative learning in English writing in high school. Chapter Two introduces English writing teaching fundamental research, including the development of English writing teaching theory, the research results of English writing teaching, the definition of cooperative learning, the basic theory of cooperative learning , the present situation of cooperative learning research and the enlightenment of cooperative learning to English writing teaching. Chapter Three is about the questionnaires to the students in Senior Two. After analyzing and thinking about the data, I proposed the feasibility and the necessity of carrying on cooperative learning in the teaching of English writing in high school. Chapter Four focuses on the application of cooperative learning to the teaching of English writing in high school, including teaching designs and cases. Chapter Five deals with reconsidering carrying on the cooperative learning practice in English writing teaching, analyzing the function and the significance of cooperative learning changing the senior English writing classroom as well as questions which should be paid attention to in the implementation process.
