The subjective strategies of learning and teaching English in China high school are matters of interest to educational workers both home and abroad. They are important tasks in modern teaching theory. How to change strategies students learn English to maximize the result has become one of the important goals of China's basic educational reform. I had a profound sense in my teaching practice in the past was that students use the subjective strategies in English learning is an inevitable trend in the development of English education. In English class, the student is a latent subject of his own. English teaching and learning is to foster the student's subjective consciousness, to strengthen the student's subjective ability, and to develop the student's subjective ability. Although the students in high school are not completely mature, their status is right for developing their subjective strategies of learning under the teachers' conductions. But some traditional teaching methods are still strongly influence the students practice of their subjective strategies of learning English. Therefore, the subjective strategies of learning English in high school are a very worthwhile theoretical topic. This thesis plans to expound as follows:I The first chapter introduces the background. A literature review is given on the education reform, the education psychology, teaching and learning theories. The major issues and the research methods are mentioned. They are the theoretical cornerstone of this research.II The second chapter is on the nation's high school English teaching situation, noting China's general trend of high school English teaching, but also points out the major shortcomings of English teaching in the high school in China and the necessity to improve the subjective strategies of learning in high school English teaching.III The third chapter is on three sections: 1) the definition and classification of the subjective strategies of English learning in high school; 2) the approaches to practice the subjective strategies of English learning in high school English teaching; 3) the features and the targets of practicing the subjective strategies of English learning in high school English teaching.IV The fourth chapter is on the survey and analysis of how the high school students practice the subjective learning strategies in their English learning process.V The fifth chapter gives conclusions and recommendations. It summarizes the achievements and significance of the research, and proposes further research direction.
